How to Care for Your Bespoke Face Paint Palette and Make It Last

How to Care for Your Bespoke Face Paint Palette and Make It Last

Your bespoke face paint palette is a labour of love — so it deserves to be looked after! Here are Sally-Ann Lynch's top tips for keeping your palette in tip-top condition.

Clean Your Palette Gently

Never use wipes to clean your palette — they're bad for the environment and can cause unnecessary paint loss. Instead, Sally-Ann recommends using a soft one stroke brush to bring your paints back and get them clean. A reusable organic muslin cloth is also brilliant for wiping around the palette — kinder to the environment and just as effective. And don't forget your brushes — read our full guide on How to Clean and Store Your Face Painting Brushes to keep your whole kit in top condition.

Don't Over-Water Your Paints

It can be tempting to add lots of water to your paints when you're working, but this can cause problems. Too much water sits in the palette and evaporates your paints over time. Use just enough water to activate the paint, and your palette will last much longer.

Re-Press Your Paints

If your paints become uneven or develop hollows in the middle, don't panic! Place a reusable organic muslin cloth over the palette, press firmly with a suitable flat object, and your paints will be even again — looking as good as new. This works beautifully on palettes like the Fabulous Onestroke Palette and the All The Colours Palette.

Don't Waste Mixed Paint

If you find yourself with leftover mixed paint at the end of a job, don't throw it away! Mix it together like play dough — it might make a brown, green or purple, but it can always be put to use. Don't waste it!

Store It Properly

When you're not using your palette, keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The water-resistant foam will help protect your paints, but a little extra care goes a long way. This is especially important for the double-sided palettes, which hold even more paint.

Reuse Your Palette

Once your paints are used up, don't throw the palette away! It's fully reusable — you can refill it yourself and have a go at making your own bespoke palette. Sally-Ann says it can be quite therapeutic! 😊 Or browse the full range of bespoke palettes to find your next favourite.
